ABSTRACT: NYAHSA seeking clarifications; DAL issued regarding carbon monoxide detectors.
Amanda’s Law, which took effect February 22, requires certain facilities, including all ACFs and assisted living facilities, to have a carbon monoxide detector installed if the facility has appliances, devices or systems that may emit carbon monoxide.
There have been many questions about the regulations, and NYAHSA has been working to obtain clarification from the various state agencies involved in the matter. We have also been in discussion with Russell Phillips & Associates to provide members with education on the requirements once essential clarifications are obtained. Please continue to contact us with your questions, so we can ensure your concerns are addressed in the session or on an individual basis. We will alert members as soon as an audio seminar is scheduled.
DOH has issued a Dear Administrator letter (DAL) on this issue, which is provided as an attachment for your convenience. It can also be viewed on the ACFs page of the Health Provider Network (HPN).
To view the regulations and statute, go to the Department of State Web site at: www.dos.state.ny.us/code/COAlarm.htm.
For general information on carbon monoxide, go to:
