ACTION ALERT: Post on Social Media for Health Budget Hearing TODAY!

Today, Feb. 28th, the Legislature is hosting the Joint Legislative Budget Hearing on the Health and Medicaid Budget for State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2023-24. The hearing is being held by Assembly and Senate Health Committee Chairs Amy Paulin and Gustavo Rivera, as well as Assembly Ways and Means and Senate Finance Committee Chairs Helene Weinstein and Liz Krueger.

LeadingAge NY urges members to join us in leveraging the power of social media to draw attention to our long term care priority budget asks during the hearing! Please take the following simple actions TODAY, as soon as possible:

  1. Download and save this image to include in your social media post. (optional)

  1. Copy and paste the below message on your personal and professional Twitter accounts:

Medicaid pays for 75% of the nursing home care provided in NY but these Medicaid rates are currently based on 2007 costs. THIS IS UNSUSTAINABLE. There is no health budget issue more important than a 20% increase to NH! @LizKrueger, @HeleneWeinstein, @NYSenatorRivera, @AmyPaulin

  1. Copy and paste the below message on your personal and professional Facebook accounts (make sure that the red fields turn blue to tag those legislators):

Medicaid pays for 75% of the nursing home care provided in NY but these Medicaid rates are currently based on 2007 costs. THIS IS UNSUSTAINABLE. There is no health budget issue more important than a 20% increase to nursing homes & long-term care! @statesenatorlizkrueger@Hon.Gustavo.Rivera@assemblywomanpaulin

This critical 20% Medicaid increase must also apply to Assisted Living Programs and Adult Day Health Care programs to help meet the needs of low-income older adults as they age.

A full hearing agenda and witness list, which includes LeadingAge NY President and CEO Jim Clyne, is available here. Members interested in watching the ongoing hearing can tune in on the Assembly website.

Thank you for your advocacy!
