Governor Cuomo Announces Resignation

During a televised address earlier today, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his resignation, effective in 14 days. The resignation comes in the wake of a report from the state Attorney General that detailed allegations of sexual harassment by 11 women against Cuomo. During his comments, the Governor suggested that the resignation was intended to avoid distraction from the important responsibilities of government, including the ongoing fight against COVID-19, the emerging Delta variant, and the safe reopening of the state’s economy.

Cuomo pledged a smooth transition to Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, who has already begun to assemble a team of qualified staff. LeadingAge NY will be reaching out to the new leadership team as we learn more and will continue to advocate for the interests of our members and the seniors we serve.
