Deadline Extended for Health Information Exchange Funding

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has approved New York's request for an extension of its Data Exchange Incentive Program (DEIP) through Sept. 30, 2020. The DEIP provides funding to help defray the cost of connecting to the Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY) through regional health information organizations. As of March 2018, nursing homes, home care agencies, and hospice programs that have implemented certified electronic health record (EHR) systems were required to connect to the SHIN-NY, unless they received a waiver. Under the DEIP, providers that use EHR systems that meet certain requirements are eligible for up to $13,000 in incentive payments to offset the costs associated with these connections. More information about the DEIP is available here. Information about the SHIN-NY connection requirement is available here.
