Life Safety Guidance Update Related to Sprinkler Requirements

All nursing homes are required to be provided with full automatic sprinkler protection by Aug. 13, 2013. LeadingAge has provided a summary of some of the areas where providers have raised particular questions with regard to compliance. LeadingAge New York is continuing to elicit member feedback related to a recent CMS proposed rule (pages 9237-9238)that would allow a temporary waiver (two years with a possible one year extension) of the sprinkler requirement only in situations where either the facility is being replaced or where major structural modifications are being undertaken. Comments on the proposed rule should be submitted to efrost@leadingageny.org no later than Monday, March 25.
