Countdown to ICD-10

On Oct. 1, 2015 the ICD-9 code sets used to report medical diagnoses will be replaced by the ICD-10.  The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has posted a video on the transition and created a web site emphasizing the importance of readiness for ICD-10, reminding providers of the resources available from CMS and other organizations to get ready. CMS predicts a 13% claim denial rate when ICD-10 starts in October.  Having staff trained to reduce exposure to denials is critical.

LeadingAge ProCare has developed a one day training for facility staff in advance of the Oct.1st transition date.  The training designed for physicians, nurses, and medical records staff features hands on coding exercises that will greatly assist the staff in understanding the process and  should reduce rejected claims.  The training focuses on such areas as understanding the reasons for the transition, diagnoses and correct coding, as well as handling of rejected claims and monitoring your process with the use of audits.
