Grant Program Targets Public Transportation Healthcare Access

Members interested in partnering on projects with local governments or transportation authorities to improve public transportation healthcare access may want to review a recently announced federal funding opportunity from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

The goal of the competitive Rides to Wellness Demonstration and Innovative Coordinated Access and Mobility Grants is to find and test promising, replicable public transportation healthcare access solutions that support increased access to care, improved health outcomes and reduced costs.

An additional aim of the $5.3M grant program is to foster local partnerships between health, transportation, home and community-based services and other sectors to collaboratively develop and support transportation solutions.

While the governmental entity applicant must serve as the lead agency, members of a local consortium that would include stakeholders from the transportation, healthcare or human service sectors are eligible for funding as subrecipients.

A set of FAQ’s is available here and FTA will be hosting a webinar on Wed., April 20th at 3:30 pm ET to answer questions about the funding opportunity. Applications are due by May 31, 2016.
