Third Party Liability Repayment Letters

The University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) is under contract with the Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) to perform traditional Medicare appeals to ensure home care providers seek reimbursement from Medicare and all other third party payors before submitting a Medicaid claim. As always, Medicaid is the payor of last resort.

OMIG has sent notifications to providers who have episodes of care that were paid by Medicare under the Traditional Medicare Appeals Initiative. The notice was sent to those identified providers along with a case selection report listing the beneficiaries and dates of service covered by Medicare.

As in the previous recovery, OMIG is only requesting that each agency return the amount paid by Medicare. They encourage providers who receive this notice to review their records and contact UMMS Medicare Appeals Team at 866-626-7594.
