Third Party Liability Continues for Home Care

The New York Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) sent out another Third Party Liability (TPL) letter, dated Feb. 20, 2015. This letter was sent to all providers who have been selected for the second half of the Federal Fiscal Year 2014 Traditional Project. This process follows NYCRR Title 18, Section 540.6(e)(1), which is to ensure providers seek reimbursement for Medicare and all other third parties before submitting a claim to Medicaid. The claims selected for this initiative fall between April 1, 2014 through Sept. 30, 2014, or the end of the episodic period billed to Medicaid.

For specific questions about the letters, contact Laurie Burns at the University of Massachusetts Medical School at 866-626-7594.

If you want to know if you will be receiving a letter from OMIG, please contact me. LeadingAge NY continues to advocate on this issue with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and LeadingAge for a long term solution.
