LeadingAge NY Webinar on the Companionship Exemption
LeadingAge NY scheduled a webinar on Dec. 2, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m on the companionship exemption rule. In October 2013, US Department of Labor announced a final rule extending the Fair Labor Standards Act's minimum wage and overtime provisions to home care workers.
LeadingAge NY will be conducting a free webinar that will cover the key implications of this rule such as:
- January 1, 2015 implementation;
- minimum wage and overtime requirements;
- calculation of hours and compensation for "live-in/sleep-in" cases;
- travel requirements;
- new recordkeeping requirements; and
- the recent time-limited non-enforcement policy.
In addition, the discussion will include the findings from a LeadingAge NY and Home Care Association of NYS survey to gauge the fiscal and administrative impact this may have to hospice and home care providers. LeadingAge NY home care and hospice members were sent the survey on Nov.10. If you haven't submitted your responses, please do so. We will be discussing both the fiscal and administrative impact with the Department of Health later this week. As we stated in the survey, your responses will be kept strictly confidential and the data used only in aggregate. Thank you to those who have submitted responses.
