Medicare Rights Center Launches New Learning Module

LeadingAge NY has been collaborating with the Medicare Rights Center to develop a Fully Integrated Duals Advantage (FIDA) provider education program survey, with possible additional educational components to follow.

The Medicare Rights Center, a national, nonprofit consumer service organization with 25 years of counseling expertise, invites you to check out Medicare Rights University (MRU), an online curriculum designed to empower you to better help your colleagues and staff navigate a multitude of Medicare questions.

Medicare Rights just launched a new module on MRU to educate health care professionals on all aspects of hospital transitions for people with Medicare. The hospital transitions module courses are each tailored for professionals and supplemented with useful handouts, quizzes and other materials:

  • Course 1 navigates the complex landscape of transitioning out of a hospital stay and into a skilled nursing facility (SNF), back home or into hospice care.
  • Course 2 provides details about patient discharge planning, appeals and post-discharge rights.
  • Course 3 explains Medicare costs and coverage of outpatient therapy services and skilled nursing facility care.

For a limited time, Medicare Rights is offering a 15% discount on this module. To receive the discount, apply the code “TRANSITION2015” after following the “register” link at www.medicarerightsuniversity.org.

In addition to hospital transitions, MRU offers topics such as basics of coverage and eligibility, coordination of Medicare with other types of insurance such as Medicaid and Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits, programs to help cover the costs of Medicare and many more.

MRU features a four-level Core Curriculum with four to five video-based courses in each level, as well as a Special Topics portion, which digs deeper into subjects not covered in the Core Curriculum. Quizzes, case examples and downloadable materials accompanying each course will test your knowledge and enable you to effectively educate your colleagues and staff.

If you have any questions about this module or any other Medicare Rights University topics, contact Scarlet Watts at swatts@medicarerights.org or 212-204-6285.
