Free Sepsis In-Service Training Available for Home Health Aides, Personal Care Aides, and Paraprofessionals in Other Settings

LeadingAge NY calls on members to urge agency and other setting staff to take advantage of a free sepsis training made available by the Home Care Association of NYS (HCA), Sepsis Alliance, and End Sepsis. The module is approximately 1.2 hours long and includes an on-demand video available 24/7 and a brief training quiz. Participants must obtain an 80 percent on the quiz to receive certification. The training fulfills one hour of the annual six hours of in-service training required for personal care aides and one of 12 for home health aides.

Sepsis is a public health priority and the number one cause of death in hospitals, while 87 percent of cases originate in the home or community. The training is appropriate for aides in certified home health agencies and licensed home care services agencies, as well as resident assistants serving in adult care facilities and personal care assistants in the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program.

If agencies or settings prefer to administer the training resource in house along with additional education, additional resources are available for this format.

HCA has also made available a sepsis resource module for Home Health Maternal Health Care, which may be of interest to some agencies.

More information about the training is available here.
