Certified Home Health Agencies (CHHAs)
Mr. Reeves recently had surgery on his arm and is now receiving physical therapy
twice a week and has a home health aide assist him with dressing and bathing.
Overview: CHAAs typically provide or arrange for short-term skilled nursing and support services on a part-time or intermittent basis in the home including: personal care, homemaker and housekeeper services; physical, occupational, and speech therapy; medical supplies and equipment; and social worker and nutrition services. However, CHAAs can offer comprehensive services for a longer duration if specifically certified to provide a long term home health care program (See LTHHCP).
Eligibility Criteria: Those who meet the requirements for federal Medicare eligibility for homecare or standard NYS Medicaid eligibility can be provided services by CHAAs
- Medicare: under care of physician who: certifies that you need intermittent skilled nursing care, physical therapy, speech-language pathology services or continued occupational therapy; certifies that you are primarily home-bound with the exception of medical treatments and infrequent absences for non-medical reasons.
- Medicaid: persons with high medical bills, those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and meet certain financial requirements as determined in the ACCESS NY Public Health Insurance Eligibility Screening Tool.
Payment Sources: Medicare, Medicaid, private payment, Long Term Home Health Care Programs (for services provided under contract) and some health insurers
