Portable X-Ray Demo Extended to 2017

The Governor approved legislation to renew and extend the Portable X-Ray Demonstration program through June 30, 2017. The legislation, A.10018 (Peoples-Stokes)-S.7774 (Hannon), allows for portable X-ray providers enrolled in the demonstration to bill Medicaid for services provided to residents of nursing homes and intermediate care facilities for the developmentally disabled.

LeadingAge NY continues to support the renewal of the demonstration as a critical enhancement to the quality of life of nursing home residents. The ability to deliver portable X-ray services to Medicaid recipients in the nursing home means that these individuals do not have to be transported out of the facility to receive needed imaging services. This results in less inconvenience and discomfort to the resident and savings in avoiding unnecessary transportation costs to the Medicaid system.

As a demonstration, the Department of Health is required to submit a report on the program to the Legislature by September 2015.  LeadingAge NY will continue to advocate in support of this program.
