CMS Updates MDS 3.0 Quality Measures Manual

The nursing home Minimum Date Set Quality Manual, MDS 3.0 QM User's Manual V9.0, contains two changes to the influenza vaccine measures and a change to the missing values for risk-adjusted measures:

• Influenza vaccination measures will now be calculated only once per year and the target period for the influenza vaccination measures will always coincide with the influenza season.  For example, in a year where the influenza begins on Oct. 1st and ends March 31st, the target period will coincide with these dates.
• Missing values for items used to calculate coefficients for the three risk-adjusted measures now result in the resident being assigned to the low-risk category rather than being dropped from the calculation.
