Nursing Home Incident Reporting Manual to be Revised

The Nursing Home Incident Reporting Manual, last revised in June 2012, is being reviewed for changes and updates. LeadingAgeNY is represented on a workgroup that is charged with updating the guidance and reviewing the sample scenarios to provide greater clarity on what incidents need to be reported to the Department of Health (DOH). DOH feels that there are incidents, though not required by regulation to be reported, that are still facility reported. Many of these reports are resident to resident incidents. DOH also raised concern over the lack of thorough investigations when incidents involving abuse, neglect and mistreatment may have taken place, and this regulatory requirement is among the most frequently cited deficiency statewide and a frequent cause of Immediate Jeopardy citations. LeadingAgeNY would like to hear from members regarding any problems or concerns related to the Nursing Home Incident Reporting Manual.
