DOH Citations for Immediate Jeopardy on the Rise

At the Jan. 9, 2014 DOH/Provider Association meeting, DOH shared that the number of Immediate Jeopardy (IJ) citations for this fiscal year has sharply increased over the previous year. Examples of  citations at the IJ level have been lack of a thorough accident investigation and a failure to correct root cause issues, DNR identification issues and the failure to carry out the advance directives of the resident, not removing an individual accused of abuse or neglect from contact with residents while the investigation is being conducted, elopements, and choking incidents related to providing a resident with the incorrect diet or consistency.  Members are urged to review their current systems in these areas to determine if there are any issues that need to be addressed.  We have requested a full list of IJ citations and will share this with members when it is provided.
