HUD to Photograph REAC Deficiencies During Inspections

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Renewal’s (HUD) Real Estate Assessment Center (REAC) is enhancing its inspection reporting process by including photographic documentation of deficiencies identified in REAC inspections. Initially, only a limited number of inspectors will be using the new photograph capability in selected physical inspections of Public Housing and Multifamily properties, and only Level 3 observed deficiencies will be photographed.

REAC Quality Assurance (QA) Inspectors will test the software in August. After QA testing is complete, the photograph capability will be expanded to all physical inspections, with the time period from October to December 2014 devoted to the full implementation of the technology. HUD indicates that it is taking steps to notify all affected properties that inspectors will be photographing deficiencies in upcoming inspections.
