Christopher Community Receives a LeadingAge Innovation Fund Grant

LeadingAge has announced that Christopher Community will receive an Innovation Fund grant to implement the BeWell (Behavioral and Emotional Wellness Empowers Later Life) program, which integrates psychoeducational activities, screening and interventions for geriatric depression. Service coordinators will collaborate with Syracuse Jewish Family Services to offer BeWell Learning Groups, facilitated by geriatric mental health professionals and graduate clinical interns, in three housing sites. The clinical interns will offer the evidenced-based PEARLS (Program for Encouraging Active Rewarding Lives) program to residents who screen positive for depression. Christopher Community provides housing opportunities for people of low and moderate means, including seniors, families, individuals and the disabled with more than 3,000 subsidized apartments across upstate New York.
