Advocacy Needed for HUD Section 202 and HCBS Services

According to the fiscal 2014 budget deal reached in December by Congress, Jan. 15, 2014 is the deadline for passage of an omnibus spending bill to fund federal programs through the rest of this fiscal year.

While it appears unlikely that Congress will be able to make this deadline because of still unresolved conflicts over provisions of the spending bill that do not involve aging services, we expect Congress to pass a short-term continuing resolution to keep the government in operation while the omnibus bill is finalized.

This delay provides an opportunity to continue our advocacy in support of essential funding for Section 202 and Section 8 housing and for home and community-based services under the Older Americans Act. Please contact your legislators and urge them not to forget the seniors who need these services and bring back funding for HUD Section 202 that has been eliminated in the past.
