CMS Releases New OASIS Guidance Manual

On June 27, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) posted the OASIS-C2 Guidance Manual. As a reminder, OASIS-C2 is scheduled to be implemented on Jan. 1, 2017, and replaces the earlier version that was created to align with ICD-10 coding.

There are several major differences in the new guidance manual that were added in response to the Improving Medicare Post-Acute Care Transformation (IMPACT) Act. Passed in 2014, the main goal of the IMPACT Act is to collect standardized data that is individualized by four post-acute care settings: long-term care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes and home health agencies.

Please note Appendix G of the new manual summarizes the changes from OASIS-C1/ICD-10 to OASIS-C2, including new items/IMPACT Act items.
