In a meeting with nursing home associations on Feb. 14, 2024, DOH shared information about common omissions in infection prevention audits and top survey deficiencies.

DOH has announced that it is making available infection prevention health care supplies to nursing homes at no charge, including COVID-19 rapid antigen tests, personal protective equipment, fit testing supplies, and Glo Germ supplies. Orders must be submitted by the new deadline of close of business on Feb. 28^th.

DOH-regulated providers reminded of importance of keeping HCS roles up to date; new monthly training course for HCS Coordinators now available.

Topics to be addressed in the four-part webinar series include risk assessment and plan development, surveillance and NHSN reporting, hand hygiene, standard and transmission-based precautions, occupational and resident health, facility-acquired infections, cleaning and disinfection, and antimicrobial stewardship.

The Department is concerned about nursing homes with a high rate of unresolved complaints.

DOH will be issuing notices to small groups of nursing homes directing them to complete their annual online infection prevention survey on a phased basis beginning in January 2024. Facilities that have low ratings on inspections, quality measures, or staffing; Special Focus Facilities; and Special Focus Candidates will be prioritized for surveys early in the year. Facilities will have 30 days from the issuance of their notice to submit the online survey.

Providers should use the most current version that is available on the eMedNY website.

In a webinar held on Dec. 13^th, DOH staff clarified that nursing home infection prevention audit surveys will be due annually on facility-specific due dates. A recording of the webinar is available here.
