Traveling for the Holidays?

State travel guidance for health care providers follows general Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 travel recommendations set forth here. One recent change of note brought on by the Omicron variant requires those traveling internationally, regardless of vaccination status, to show a negative COVID-19 test within the 24 hours prior to departure to the U.S.

General travel recommendations, in a nutshell:

Domestic Travel:

  • Unvaccinated: Self-quarantine for seven days regardless of negative status, and test at day three to five. Self-quarantine for 10 days without test.
  • Vaccinated: Self-monitor for symptoms, isolate and test if symptomatic.

International Travel:

  • Unvaccinated: Self-quarantine for seven days regardless of negative status, and test at day three to five. Self-quarantine for 10 days without test.
  • Vaccinated: Self-monitor for symptoms, isolate and test if symptomatic, test at day three to five.

For recently recovered:

If you have recovered from a documented COVID-19 infection within the past 90 days (regardless of vaccination status), you do NOT need to get a test three to five days after travel. People can continue to test positive for up to 90 days after diagnosis and not be infectious to others. You also do not need to self-quarantine after travel. If you develop COVID-19 symptoms after travel, isolate and consult with a health care provider for testing recommendations.

These CDC recommendations are dated Dec. 6, 2021. Please check the CDC's website for updates.
