LeadingAge has published a toolkit to assist certain long-term care providers who are preparing to offer third Pfizer COVID-19 booster shots to residents and staff following federal guidance.

The Vaccine Toolkit for Long-Term Care Settings, posted on Monday, is designed for use by non-nursing home settings including assisted living, affordable senior housing, life plan communities, and home- and community-based services organizations. It provides links to sources of support for on-site clinic set-up and guidance to administrators who must encourage off-site vaccine access.

“LeadingAge has compiled information on transit reimbursements for residents seeking vaccines in the broader community, educational materials from the CDC about getting COVID-19 vaccinated, and sample letters and surveys to help communities get vaccine clinics set up,” the eldercare advocate said in a statement announcing the kit.

Currently, residents and staff in long-term care settings are eligible to receive a booster if they were originally (and fully) vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine at least six months ago, according to recommendations from the CDC.

The LeadingAge booster toolkit is available on its website. The organization plans to update it as more booster vaccines become available for expanded groups of people.
