Rochester, N.Y. – Residents at Monroe County Hospital have a new place where they can have some fun.
“The Clubhouse” was unveiled Friday at the hospital. It has video games, a jukebox, a pool table and other activities and games that are available for residents to utilize.
“It is a project that was designed to provide entertainment, enjoyment and escape,” said Executive Director gene Larrabee. “But, more than that, it’s also meant to be therapeutic – to help people maintain fine motor dexterity and sharpen cognitive skills. Most importantly, The Clubhouse was designed for the residents to be run by the residents.”
“Every home has to have a place for people to enjoy each other, to socialize, to have the ability to communicate, to converse, to relax, to have fun, to have camaraderie,” said Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo. “That’s what The Clubhouse is all about.”
Dinolfo thanked resident Flip Polizzi for his help regarding The Clubhouse’s video games. Polizzi says he hoped his work will encourage all residents to play.
“I did this to show people who has disabilities who want to play video games,” he said Friday.
Dinolfo also thanked the family members of former MCH Foundation President Robert J. Blake and his wife Barbara, who were present at Friday’s event.
The Clubhouse’s name was picked by residents in a vote.
