CDC Issues Extension to Eviction Moratorium

On March 29th, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an extension to the eviction moratorium that was scheduled to expire on March 31, 2021. It has been extended through June 30, 2021. In a statement, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky stated that the “COVID-19 pandemic has presented a historic threat to the nation’s public health. Keeping people in their homes and out of crowded or congregate settings — like homeless shelters — by preventing evictions is a key step in helping to stop the spread of COVID-19.”

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of Multifamily Housing will be issuing revised guidance on the extension in its forthcoming COVID-19 Questions and Answers (Q&A). The most recent Q&A document and additional COVID-19 resources may be found here.
