Aug. 31st COVID-19 Update

New updates pertaining to the COVID-19 emergency continue to be announced by both the state and federal government on a regular basis. The latest developments for providers of long-term/post-acute care (LTPAC) and senior services are outlined below.

DOH Issues Vaccine Mandate Regulations for Nursing Homes, ACFs, Home Care, ADHC, D&TCs, and Hospitals

The Department of Health (DOH) issued emergency regulations last week implementing a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for personnel in nursing homes, adult care facilities (ACFs), home care, adult day health care (ADHC), hospitals, and diagnostic and treatment centers. Click here for more information.

Considerations with Timing of COVID-19 Vaccine and Other Vaccines and TB Testing

There has been some confusion regarding the timing of the COVID-19 vaccine with other vaccines, such as the flu shot, and with tuberculin (TB) testing. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued guidance on both, and members should note that TB testing guidance has significant implications for onboarding of new staff. Vaccination Update

The latest vaccination information, including updates on New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) data corrections, the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) extension of the shelf life of the Pfizer vaccine, and the timing of second mRNA vaccine doses, is summarized here.

Nursing Home Updates

Updates from Aug. 30th DOH-Nursing Home Association Call

On Aug. 30th, DOH convened a call with the nursing home associations and conveyed several key messages on vaccines, personal protective equipment (PPE) stockpile requirements, the distribution of Abbott BinaxNOW cards, and the transition of temporary nurse aides (TNAs) to certified nurse aides (CNAs).
