Grand Marshal Chosen For 173rd Washington's Birthday Parade

Congratulations to Bob Syron!

GREENPORT, NY — The new Grand Marshal of Greenport's 173rd Washington's Birthday Parade and celebration has been chosen.

According to Greenport Fire Chief Wayne Miller, Robert J. Syron, president and CEO of Peconic Landing, has been chosen by the Chiefs of the Department to serve as the grand marshal.

Syron said he was honored to be tapped for the title.

"Peconic Landing values the Greenport Fire Department very much and we consider this a great honor," he said. "These men and woman serve our community 24 hours a day with true dedication, which is a tremendous commitment. They keep our community safe. This is a very proud moment for Peconic Landing. Personally I was very moved to be asked to be the Grand Marshal."

The annual parade, a well-loved event that brings scores of fire departments and thousands of supporters from across Long Island to village, kicks off at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greenport High School and will wend its way down Front Street before making a left on Main Street, a left on Center Street, and ending with clam chowder and hot dogs at the at Third Street Firehouse.
