2022 Virtual Advocacy Days

2022 Virtual Advocacy Days
Thank you to all who participated in our 2022 Virtual Advocacy Days on the State Fiscal Year 2022-23 Budget! During this year's advocacy days, LeadingAge NY membership held over 50 virtual meetings - connecting with nearly 70 state lawmakers over the course of just a few business days.

This year's Advocacy Days, which were held on Feb 9-11, proved to be an incredibly impactful way to bring many voices together at a specific time within the state budget process to enhance the relevance and weight of our message to lawmakers. Since our organized advocacy in early February, LeadingAge NY has maintained that momentum; continuing to connect with lawmakers and re-enforce our priority budget requests. Because so many members kept us apprised of their advocacy activities, we were able to orchestrate our own follow-up to key legislative offices and strengthen those relationships between lawmakers and LeadingAge NY.

THANK YOU for taking the time for budget advocacy amidst everything you are doing for the vulnerable individuals in your care. Our advocacy would not be as effective as it has been without your active participation in these efforts. Because of you, we are feeling confident about the momentum behind many of our key proposals. However, we are not yet out of the woods.

We need to keep pressure on state lawmakers as one-house budget proposals are finalized and we move into the final weeks of state budget negotiations. A Final State Budget is due on April 1, 2022, and until a budget is agreed upon by the Legislature and the Executive, all proposals remain in play. Please be sure to continue to use our digital budget advocacy letters over the coming weeks!

This is a critical time for legislators to hear from you! Please use the links below to send messages to your legislators and the Governor TODAY. We also strongly encourage members to share these links with colleagues and board members to expand our advocacy reach.

In addition to sending the above digital advocacy letters, members are strongly encouraged to CALL YOUR STATE SENATOR AND ASSEMBLY MEMBER to relay your most top-priority budget asks during these final weeks of negotations. Members can use the budget issue briefs linked below to inform your phone calls, or, reach out to Sarah Daly at sdaly@leadingageny.org for more specific guidance based on your service-line and state legislators. Members can easily find out who their lawmakers are, along with relevant contact information, by using our Find My Legislators tool.

Thank you again to all of our members that continue to engage in this critical budget advocacy, to #SupportOurSeniors and the providers that care for them! Please feel free to reach out if there is any way that we can better support your efforts.
