Oppose Proposed Cuts to Nursing Homes

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) in March of 2020, nursing homes have faced numerous operational and regulatory challenges around testing, patient protective equipment (PPE), staffing, and much more. These regulatory and logistical challenges have been accompanied by significant financial burdens, including added costs and cuts to Medicaid enacted at the height of the pandemic-when many of these providers were already financially stressed before COVID-19 appeared in NY.

Instead of offering support in the midst of this crisis like many other states, New York first imposed a 1.5 percent cut in Medicaid rates and now proposes additional cuts and spending limits in the Executive Budget. The state’s financial difficulties cannot be fixed by cutting the very providers who are on the front lines every single day, fighting this pandemic and protecting New York’s seniors.
