Latest Office of Emergency Management Update on Hurrricane Joaquin

Update as of 2:00 p.m., Fri. Oct. 1, 2015

Dear Colleagues:

Based on the most recent information from the New York State Office of Emergency Management (OEM), they have determined that there is a “high level of confidence” that Hurricane Joaquin will not directly impact New York State.  As a result, OEM is in the process of scaling back their emergency operations to a monitoring phase as they continue to track the storm.  Guidance issued earlier today, (Storm Guidance October 1, 2015) is now contingent on any significant change in the course of the storm, but as of 2 p.m. today OEM is beginning the phase down their emergency operations.

They are still concerned with the potential for localized flash flooding and coastal storm surges.  As a result, providers in the areas prone to such events should continue to carefully monitor their local situation, including weather reports and local emergency notices.

LeadingAge New York is recommending that potentially impacted members also continue to monitor any updates from the following agencies:

·         For NYC SLOSH Zone A Emergency Evacuation Notices:  http://gis.nyc.gov/oem/he/index.htm;

·         DOH Web site: http://www.health.ny.gov/

·         National Weather Service: http://www.weather.gov/

·         NYS Office of Emergency Management: http://www.dhses.ny.gov/oem/

·         Health Commerce System: https://commerce.health.state.ny.us/hcsportal/hcs_home.portal

LeadingAge NY staff will also be closely monitoring the situation over the weekend and communicating any updates directly with our members.  In addition, we have a temporary Hurricane Joaquin page set up on our web site.

For general information purposes we are sharing this notice with all our members statewide, as we have learned from past storms the impact of these events can extend beyond the immediate emergency area.

Please be sure and contact us at any time if we can be of any assistance at pcucinelli@leadingageny.org or call 518-598-6718.  Hopefully there will be no change in the current storm track and we can all rest easy.

DOH Message Oct. 2, 2015 4:15 p.m.

Dear Healthcare Partners:

DOHMH has been closely monitoring the path and progression of Hurricane Joaquin and the forecast now shows Hurricane Joaquin is headed east and is not expected to impact New York City.   As a result, the New York City Health Department is deactivating the Incident Command System (ICS) and discontinuing response efforts for the healthcare system.  We would like to extend our sincere appreciation for your continuous efforts, outreach to your members and most importantly, your partnership in working collaboratively to “ready” New York City’s healthcare sector as we prepared and implemented response measures.

We look forward hearing from you regarding any areas needing improvement, as well as what worked well.   Please email your comments to: DOHMHcore@health.nyc.gov , subject line: Hurricane Joaquin.

We look forward hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Danielle
