AmeriCorps in ElderCare Settings (ACES)

AmeriCorps in ElderCare Settings (ACES)

What’s the best thing about being an ACES Host Site?  Our sites say:  “being able to offer additional services to our clients,” “being able to work on a project to better the lives of the seniors served by the agency.”

Through a grant from AmeriCorps to the Foundation for Long Term Care called "AmeriCorps in Eldercare Settings" (ACES), the FLTC provides funding for eldercare and community agenices to host stipended volunteers who will increase programming/services and improve the lives of the elders they serve.

The ACES project is based in: the greater areas of the Capital Region, the greater New York City area, and in the state of Connecticut.

In ACES, baby-boomer aged professionals as well as graduate students serve as AmeriCorps members who will provide skills-based, high-Impact service at elder care settings across the continuum of care.  AmerCorps positions in our project have focused on:

  • Assisting older adults to age in place through resource coordination, improving transitional care and falls prevention

  • Recruiting additional volunteers to provide services for older adults and sustain specialized projects such as Life Stories

  • Other roles specifically crafted by agencies that directly benefit older adults

Numerous eldercare service settings have been accepted to join the national service initiative by becoming Host Sites for AmeriCorps Members in this project.
