What You Need to Know About the Ethics Committee and the FHCDA
This program is a recording of the August 19, 2010 "What You Need to Know About the Ethics Committee and the FHCDA" audio program.
The Family Health Care Decision Act (FHCDA) became law on June 1, 2010. The law provides legal authority for surrogate consent to any type of health care decision for residents who cannot make their own decisions and have not signed health care proxies. A critical part of the law is the requirement to establish an Ethics Review Committee (ERC), where disagreements, on surrogate decisions, must be referred.
This audioconference will cover a range of issues involved in the new law:
- The role of the ethics committee.
- Initiating and maintaining an ethics committee.
- The use of expertise in ethics committee deliberations.
- Training issues associated with the ethics committee.
- Ethical considerations.
The program presenter: Peter Young - VP/Administrator Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center and Beechword, Troy, NY
Fee: $69 member/ $125 non-member; includes audio program, handouts, and Q&A session.
