This program is a recording of the May 21, 2010 Family Health Care Decisions Act (FHCDA) audio program that was jointly sponsored by NYAHSA, NYSHFA, HANYS, and SNYA and conducted by Ms. Tracy Miller, attorney at law.  Ms. Miller was the executive director of the NYS Task Force on Life and the Law, the state commission that developed the FHCDA, the health care proxy law and other state laws. Using model policies and procedures as reference, Ms. Miller explains this complex new law that covers decisions about medical treatment, including life sustaining treatment, for nursing home residents who have lost decision-making capacity and do not have a health care proxy.
